Take a look at http://www.freebsd.org/releases/   for release  
information  and
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/cutting- 
edge.html  for the freebsd release process
I think 6.1++ refers to the C++ kernel ;-)
