Sure, and why wouldn't he want that? That's what I'd do.
Install from the release ISO
Setup basic networking and a default route
Install cvsup without gui
pkg-add -r cvsup-without-gui
Update to RELENG_6
/usr/local/bin/cvsup -g -L 2 -h cvsup10.freebsd.org
/usr/share/examples/cvsup/stable-supfile
Update to newest ports
/usr/local/bin/cvsup -g -L 2 -h cvsup10.freebsd.org
/usr/share/examples/cvsup/ports-supfile
Build the newest world and generic kernel and reboot
cd /usr/src && make buildworld && make buildkernel && make installworld &&
make installkernel && reboot
Customize your kernel and rebuild, then go from there
