For starters I am a proud owner of a mini. (http://www.oneinsane.net
is running on it) The choice between a mini and a MacBook Pro depends
what you need the machine for. Now with that said if I needed a
portable I would get me a MacBook Pro but at this point in time my G4
Powerbook is doing just fine. I am not a believer of tainting my
Apple product with a non Apple OS unless I was doing it
virtualization ala Parallels (http://www.parallels.com). When I need
an OS I load it up in there. Current loaded images are Windows XP
(Visio and Project), CentOS (Testing apps for work) and PC-BSD (Just
loaded t to check out the experience so I can find out if I should
recommend it to others over linux)
Currently right now there are two different package systems for OSX.
They are fink (http://fink.sf.net) and darwinports (http://
darwinports.opendarwin.org). I have been using darwinports for over
two years. It is the closer of the two to a BSD like port system.
Fink to me feels like a linux package system. (My opinion) Take each
one for a run and chose the one that fits your needs best.

P.S. When I have a free moment I blog about the things I am into on
my website (http://www.oneinsane.net (shameless plug))
