Brian,

I have installed OpenSuse and Red Hat Linux on a Dell
PowerEdge 2850 with the internal SCSI hardware RAID with 
no problems.  I would be surprised if FreeBSD doesn't
work since these are pretty standard RAID controllers.
They look just like a standard SCSI controller.

You might be having problems if one of the RAID disks
is in trouble or has gone bad.
